OUR STORY

London Youth Theatre, formerly Musical Youth London, is a youth theatre company for 13-23 year olds based at Seven Dials Playhouse. Our mission is to stage high quality theatrical productions whilst remaining financially accessible to all our members.

Founded by Katie Pesskin and Tom Foskett-Barnes, over 150 young people have come through LYT. In our short time we’ve had some great success: many ex-members have gone on to train at the UK’s top drama schools and some have gone on to person in the West End and in UK/International Tours. Others have gone on to study at university or work in other sectors, where their performance experience has always stood them in good stead. You can find out more about our incredible alumni on our Alumni Stories page.

Local youth theatre is a vital part of the capital’s cultural landscape. Some young people are keen to escape their local environments and we aim to provide for those looking to explore outside their immediate communities. London certainly has lots to offer in terms of the arts, but it is also home to some of the most deprived areas of the country. We believe talent doesn’t discriminate and this is why we’re passionate about removing the financial barriers to services like ours.

We are a 50% free service and, with our aim to eventually be a completely free-to-use service, we’re motivated by the potential of discovering the artists of tomorrow who without support might go undiscovered.

LYT is all about empowering young people to use the arts for wider social change. We believe that theatre can be a vehicle for radically re-imagining our future. Will you be a part of our journey?
